A Better Way to Find the Right Education in Nevada

| April 10, 2026

For too long, finding the right school for your child in Nevada has meant navigating a maze of disconnected websites, word-of-mouth recommendations, and incomplete information. Most parents default to their zip code’s assigned public school — not because it’s the best fit, but because they simply don’t know what other options exist nearby.

That changes today.

Nevada Policy is proud to announce two new free resources designed to put real information in parents’ hands: Nevada Education Guide and A School That Fits.

A Complete Map of Your Options, Right Where You Live

Nevada Education Guide is a first-of-its-kind school finder for Nevada families. Parents enter their location and instantly see every education option within their area — public schools, charter schools, private schools, microschools, homeschool co-ops, and more — all in one place, on one site.

No more piecing together information from a dozen different sources. No more wondering if something better exists nearby. For the first time, Nevada families can get a full picture of what’s available to their child in minutes.

Guidance to Help Families Navigate the Decision

Finding a list of schools is one thing. Knowing how to compare them — and how to afford them — is another. That’s where A School That Fits comes in. The site offers plain-language guidance on every type of school available in Nevada, helping parents understand what makes each option different and how to think through the decision for their family’s specific needs.

It also walks families through the new Federal Tax Credit Scholarship program, which launches January 1, 2027 — and includes a quick eligibility calculator so parents can find out right now whether their child may qualify for scholarship funding.

Why This Matters for Nevada’s Future

Nevada has a complicated history with school choice. In 2015, the state became the first in the nation to establish a nearly universal Education Savings Account program — a landmark moment that should have opened the door to real educational freedom for every family regardless of income. That program was blocked by the courts and ultimately repealed. In the years since, other states have moved forward while Nevada has fallen behind, with 21 ESA programs now operating across 18 states serving more than 700,000 students.

The consequences have been real. Nevada consistently ranks among the lowest states in student performance. Spending has increased, but outcomes have not improved. Families in lower-income households have remained largely locked into schools they didn’t choose and can’t afford to leave.

The new federal program is an opportunity to shift that dynamic. Under the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship program, Nevada families with household incomes up to 300% of their area’s median income may qualify for scholarships covering a broad range of educational expenses — including tuition, tutoring, technology, transportation, and more. In Clark County, that means households earning up to roughly $227,000 could be eligible.

The scholarships are funded by private donors who receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 per year for their contributions, with married couples able to claim up to $3,400. You can read the full breakdown in our Federal School Choice Program Tool Kit

The program won’t fix Nevada’s education system on its own. But for families who have been waiting for a real option, it’s a meaningful step — and 2027 is closer than it seems.
