A significant percentage of American voters lack confidence that the upcoming November elections will be conducted fairly.
Unfortunately, like so much else connected with politics, it’s often difficult to discuss the nuances of election law without either scaring off or boring neighbors, family members and friends when the topic arises.
However, there are five basic points to understand when detailing what makes our elections free and fair, according to The Federalist.
These include: lax policies that undermine both election and voter confidence; illegitimate votes canceling out legal votes; letting individuals vote without having to provide identification; and the rise of universal mail-in ballots and same-day voter registration.
It’s not enough for elections to be free and fair; they must also have the appearance of being such.
