Welcome back! We’re officially in the second half of the legislative marathon, and this week promises to be a busy one. Now that bills have crossed over to the second house, they are back for a second round of committee hearings. Expect full agendas, fast-paced debates, and plenty of updates as we move closer to the finish line!
Here’s a look at what’s on our radar this week:
Bills We Support
AB450 – This bill removes the requirement that applicants for licensure by endorsement as marriage and family therapists or clinical professional counselors provide proof that they have not been investigated by a regulatory authority. Individuals who were investigated but not disciplined can now qualify for licensure in Nevada.
- Upcoming hearing on April 28th at 8:00am.
AB507 – This bill strengthens budget transparency by requiring Interim Finance Committee (IFC) approval for any proposed budget revision exceeding $75,000 in one or more expense categories and prohibits agencies from splitting revisions to evade oversight.
- Upcoming hearing on April 30th at 3:30pm.
Bills We Oppose
SB24 – This bill creates a new occupational license for “emergency medical responders” separate from EMTs, making it illegal to practice without a license and imposing criminal penalties—adding another layer of unnecessary occupational licensing.
- Upcoming hearing on April 28th at 1:30pm.
AB347 – This bill raises the threshold for gifts and grants that state agencies can accept without prior approval from $200,000 to $500,000, raising concerns about transparency, accountability, and potential undue donor influence over state policies.
- Upcoming hearing on April 30th at 3:30pm.
And Just for Fun: “The Crosswalk Chronicles”
SB320 – Apparently, the war on reckless parking is ramping up! This bill extends the no-parking rule to unmarked crosswalks (because crosswalks deserve respect too) and reduces the no-parking distance from 20 feet to 15 feet when curb extensions are present. Enforcement starts in 2027, so you have plenty of time to brush up on your parallel parking skills.
That’s it for now! As always, we will keep you updated on the most important happenings in Carson City.
