At 12:22 a.m. last night, the 2025 legislative session came to a dramatic close. Will there be a special session? That remains to be seen. But while we wait for that answer, we already know what did (and didn’t) make it through the finish line — and here’s your breakdown.
🏆 Big Wins for Nevada Taxpayers and Transparency 🏆
The most expensive proposal of the session — the film tax credit expansion (AB 238) — died on the Senate floor without a vote. This means no hundreds of millions in subsidies for Hollywood studios this time around.
Several other notable proposals also failed to cross the finish line, including the Governor’s omnibus crime bill, and his healthcare reform proposal.
Despite the flurry of late-night hearings and behind-the-scenes negotiations, some of the most high-profile ideas simply did get the support they needed while others got heavily amended to please all the legislators.
📬 What You Can Still Do: Veto Requests 📬
Just because the session is over doesn’t mean the policymaking is. The Governor still has the final say on many measures that passed — and you can influence that decision. Here are three bills you can email the Governor about right now:
- ❌ AB597 – Would introduce open primaries in Nevada, a controversial overhaul of our election system that would eliminate traditional party primaries.
- ❌ AB441 – Makes technical changes to the Opportunity Scholarship program that could limit access and disrupt operations for the students and families relying on it.
- ❌ AB155 – Expands collective bargaining to include class-size mandates, which could result in costly and ineffective funding obligations without guarantees of student achievement.
