Tomorrow Marks Last Day Teachers Can Leave Unions

Friday, July 15 marks the final day for Nevada educators to opt out of teachers unions for the coming school year.

By withdrawing, public school employees tired of unions telling them how to teach, who to vote for and why narrow special interests are more important than students can make their feelings known.

It also gives educators the opportunity to save hundreds of dollars in union dues each year.

The July 1-15 window marks the only time during the year that educators can remove themselves from the rolls of teachers unions and not have to pay dues during the coming school year. Teachers who miss the deadline will have to pay union dues for the entire 2022-23 year.

Membership in teachers unions is optional in Nevada. Educators have the right to join a teachers union, but they cannot be forced into a union.

Non-union members cannot be required to pay teacher union fees or dues, and employers cannot discriminate against individuals based on union membership status.
